Thomas-Lanigan Schmidt

Thomas Lanigan Schmidt | Stonewall Riots dives into the story of a man who took part in one of the most famous LGBT+ rights movements in history. I, Eric Martinez, sat down with Thomas over the phone where he talked about his childhood growing up in New Jersey and discovering his identity. In his teenage years, Thomas fled to New York in an attempt to find himself and connect with his community. Aside from being apart of one of the world's most well-known LGBT+ movements, Thomas is also an artist, using, as he calls "discarded items," as his main materials, Thomas has had his art featured and celebrated in places like MoMA PS1 in 2012, Whitney Museum of American Art 1991, Venice Biennale in both 1980 & 1984, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
